Lapis lazuli pendant in gold
Lapis lazuli stone has been used for thousands of years to make jewelry.
And our jewelry workshop is no exception to the rule, since we commonly use this natural stone for making jewelry with lapis lazuli.
The deep blue color of lapis lazuli goes very well with gold. It is only to see the Egyptian gold jewelry adorned with lapis lazuli stones exhibited in museums.
For this project, it is the creation of an 18-karat gold pendant representing the figure 50 inlaid with natural lapis lazuli stone.
The perimeter of the pendant is also set with 45 sapphires.

The difficulty of this project lies essentially in the cutting of the stone for the inlay on the gold support, which is much more difficult than for the realization of this other project of lapis lazuli necklace in white gold.
Study of the project
The project begins with the modeling of a digital model, image of the pendant desired by our client.
This model takes into account the dimensions, colors and number of stones desired.

This phase allows us to make the estimate and present a final rendering faithful to what will be the jewel.
Manufacturing in workshop
The making of this pendant is divided into two phases, the manufacture of the gold pendant, then the size of the natural lapis lazuli stone.
The work of gold
The work begins with the rolling of an 18-karat yellow gold plate in which the perimeter of the pendant will be cut.
The drawing of the 1:1 scale pendant is glued to this gold plate to serve as a model.
Cutout of the perimeter of the pendant by the technique of the pierced
Cutting continues until we have cut out all the jewel.

The number 50 is then made with thin gold bands following the outline of the drawing.
The figure 50 is shaped with gold strips which are then welded to the number 50 previously cut out.
The locations of the sapphires are then drilled at this stage.
We can then go to crimp sapphires.
These are fixed by a set grain, two grains between each sapphire can hold them in place, each sapphire is then maintained by 4 grains.

Cutting work of Lapis lazuli stone
Following the making of the gold pendant, begins the cutting phase of lapis lazuli stone, to give it the shape required to embed it in its housing at the number 50.

The cutting detail of this stone can be seen on this video (note that the stone of the video is intended for another necklace project):
The sapphires are then masked the time to fix the lapis lazuli stone and polish it on the pendant.

The pendant can then be fully polished, the chain mounted and we admire the final rendering.
