Aztec Calendar Ring

Aztec Calendar Ring

$125.00

Aztec calendar ring in sterling silver.

This Mexican ring is a sterling silver signet ring featuring a round plate of 18 millimeters in diameter, engraved with an accurate representation of the Aztec calendar. The engraving is deep, with oxidized silver blackened recesses, while the raised areas are polished silver, highlighting all the intricate details of the Aztec calendar.

The design of this ring is unique, as it was created in our workshop based on the Aztec calendar visible on the Sun Stone, which represents the Aztec calendar. Given the imposing size of the original calendar, we removed the seventh circle, depicting two serpents, which is merely ornamental, thus allowing the details of the calendar to be more clearly visible.

The Aztec calendar is composed of 7 concentric circles (source: Wikipedia):

  • The first circle contains the central head (combining attributes of Tonatiuh (the Sun god) and Tlaltecuhtli (the Earth god)).
  • The second circle displays symbols of the gods Ehecatl, Tezcatlipoca, Tlaloc, and Chalchiuhtlicue, and evokes the legend of the suns, recalling how the four previous suns (i.e., worlds) were destroyed (by jaguars, wind, fire, and water). This set of glyphs forms the expression “Nahui Ollin Tonatiuh” (“the fifth era”), referring to the current world of mankind.
  • The third circle represents the 20 day glyphs of the month.
  • The fourth circle represents the 260 days of the sacred year (52 blocks of 5 dots).
  • The fifth and sixth circles are ornamental.
  • The seventh circle is composed of two serpents, each representing 52 years.

This Aztec ring showcases one of the most iconic works of a now-vanished civilization and will appeal to all travelers who have explored Mexico or discovered the fascinating world of the Mexicas.
