Artisanal Manufacturing

All the designs of intaglio jewelry offered in our collection are handcrafted in our workshop. Only the cutting and faceting of the precious stones set on our rings are done by professional lapidaries and not in our jewelry workshop. For the carving of intaglio stones, we work with experts who can comply with our request for any design and any kind of stone.

As you have certainly noticed, we do not resell junk or simple jewelry plated with fine gold and mass-produced, but we manufacture original jewelry in 18k gold or pure solid gold in our manufacturing workshop. We master all stages of manufacturing our intaglio jewelry in our jewelry workshop, from the creation of digital CAD models, the 3D printing process, the lost wax casting process, the work on the jeweler's bench of 18k gold, as well as the setting of our precious stones and diamonds, thus allowing us to guarantee the quality of our jewelry.

What is Intaglio?

Intaglio is a term used to describe a figure (used as a seal) engraved into a hard surface like stone or metal. Generally, intaglio in jewelry is used to describe incised designs onto a gemstone like carnelian, amethyst, or agate. 

Intaglio carving is a difficult process reserved for experts in the field of jewelry. Those making intaglio usually do not make jewelry but specialize in stone carving and work hand-in-hand with jewelers. 

During antiquity, men worked on stones and gemstones before being able to work with metals. This is why most antique carved rings were made out of stones and used for sealing official documents. The most ancient antique stone seals come from Mesopotamia and are 6000 years old, they were cylinders of stone engraved and worn as pendants. Then, those seals were small enough to be worn on signet rings and were used for sealing documents with hot wax,  for identification purposes before becoming a symbol of power for the religious cast and nobles.

Nowadays, the process of making intaglio gemstones has not changed much, tools have changed but the skills required to make intaglio are the same. Most of the ancient intaglio jewelry that we know comes from the Roman Empire, this is the reason why most modern intaglio jewelry is a reproduction or inspiration from antique Roman intaglio.
