Silver Aztec Calendar Pendant Necklace
$70.00
Aztec sun calendar pendant or necklace in sterling silver.
This calendar pendant is the most faithful reproduction you can find of the famous Aztec Sun Stone that represents the Aztec calendar. This calendar is the most famous Aztec artifact found up to now and is exposed in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
This massive 22 tons stone calendar was carved by the Mexica between 1502 and 1520, the engravings showing the Aztec's idea of the origin of the universe. The different motifs engraved show us the importance of warfare, violence, and bloodshed to maintain the Mexica social order.
The central disk represents a Mexica deity that holds a human heart in both its clawed hands while its tongue is represented by a sacrificial knife. The four squares around it are a representation of the four suns, ie the four eras, that preceded the era of the Mexica.
The first ring shows the representation of the 20 days of the Aztec month according to the Aztec solar calendar.
The second ring is made of dots and feather ornaments and 8 arrows representing the sun's rays showing the eight cardinal points.
The third and last ring represented two snakes with square-shaped segments for their bodies, flames emerging from their bodies. Their tongues are touching in reference to the continuity of time.
This pendant is a detailed representation of such a massive piece of Aztec history and will seduce any person fascinated by the Aztec designs and the history of their empire.
