Joan of Arc Medal – Historical Coat of Arms
$170.00
This Joan of Arc medal is a handcrafted interpretation of the historical coat of arms associated with Joan of Arc, combining French history, medieval heraldry and religious symbolism in a distinctive piece of jewelry.
Designed in the shape of a medieval shield, the medal features two fleurs-de-lis surrounding an upright sword piercing a crown. These heraldic symbols are traditionally associated with the arms granted to Joan of Arc's family during the reign of Charles VII and evoke her service to the king and the Kingdom of France.
Rather than depicting Joan herself, this medal explores another part of her legacy: the symbols and coat of arms associated with her history.
Joan of Arc's Coat of Arms
The design of this Joan of Arc coat of arms medal was developed through research into historical and heraldic sources.
The arms traditionally associated with Joan are described as an azure shield bearing two golden fleurs-de-lis and a silver sword with a golden hilt, set upright between them, its point supporting or passing through a golden crown.
Each element carries strong historical symbolism:
- the fleurs-de-lis evoke the French monarchy and the Kingdom of France;
- the sword recalls Joan's military role and mission;
- the crown refers to royal authority and the cause of Charles VII.
Together, they form one of the most recognizable heraldic compositions associated with Joan of Arc.
Sterling Silver or Silver, 18K Gold & Royal Blue Enamel
Handcrafted in our jewelry workshop, this Joan of Arc heraldic pendant is available in two versions.
925 Sterling Silver
The shield, sword, crown and fleurs-de-lis are made entirely from solid sterling silver. A hand-applied patinated finish enhances the relief and creates contrast between the different elements of the coat of arms.
925 Sterling Silver, 18K Yellow Gold & Royal Blue Enamel
Our more elaborate version recreates the traditional colors and precious metals of the heraldic design. The shield and sword blade are crafted in sterling silver, while the two fleurs-de-lis, crown and sword hilt are made from solid 18K yellow gold.
The field of the shield is finished with royal blue enamel, representing the traditional heraldic azure background.
The result is a precious-metal interpretation of the Joan of Arc coat of arms, designed to emphasize both its historical symbolism and its distinctive medieval aesthetic.
Dimensions and Weight
The shield measures approximately 25 mm high × 20 mm wide, or approximately 35 mm overall including the bail, with a thickness of approximately 1.5 mm.
These proportions were chosen to preserve the detail and legibility of the fleurs-de-lis, sword and crown while keeping the medal comfortable to wear as a pendant.
Sterling Silver version: approximately 5.5 g of solid 925 sterling silver.
Sterling Silver, 18K Gold & Enamel version: approximately 4.5 g of 925 sterling silver and 1.3 g of solid 18K yellow gold, plus the royal blue enamel.
As each medal is individually made and hand-finished in our workshop, its final weight may vary slightly.
Wear It as a Medal or Necklace
This Joan of Arc pendant can be ordered on its own or with an optional chain, allowing it to be worn as a complete necklace.
Worn alone, its shield shape and heraldic design make it a distinctive piece of medieval-inspired jewelry. With a chain, it becomes an unusual Joan of Arc necklace centered not on a portrait of the saint, but on the historical symbols associated with her.
Who Is This Joan of Arc Medal For?
This medal is intended for those interested in Joan of Arc, French history, medieval history and heraldry, as well as those who identify with the values associated with her legacy: courage, faith, commitment and determination.
Unlike traditional St. Joan of Arc medals centered on a religious portrait of the saint, this piece represents her through her historical coat of arms. It offers a more heraldic and historical interpretation of Joan of Arc jewelry while retaining the powerful symbolism associated with her life.
It can be worn as a personal symbol or given as a meaningful gift to someone with an interest in Joan of Arc, medieval France or heraldic jewelry.
Each medal is designed, made and hand-finished in our jewelry workshop.
