Joan of Arc Ring Replica – Historical Reproduction

Joan of Arc Ring Replica – Historical Reproduction

$289.00

A historically researched reproduction, handcrafted in our jewelry workshop.

This Joan of Arc ring replica is handcrafted in our jewelry workshop as a historical reproduction of the ring traditionally attributed to Joan of Arc.

Inspired by both the surviving ring associated with Joan and the descriptions recorded during her 1431 trial, our reproduction is available in sterling silver, 14K & 18K yellow gold, and platinum.

More than a piece of medieval-inspired jewelry, this ring carries the symbols associated with Joan's faith and extraordinary place in history.

The story behind Joan of Arc's ring

Joan of Arc is one of the most remarkable figures of the 15th century. Born around 1412 in Domrémy, she played a decisive role during the Hundred Years' War and accompanied Charles VII's campaign that led to his coronation at Reims in 1429.

During her trial in Rouen in 1431, Joan was questioned about the rings she wore. The trial records describe one ring given to her by her father or mother, bearing the names Jesus  and Mary (IHS and MAR on the ring) together with several crosses.

A medieval ring now traditionally attributed to Joan of Arc was acquired in 2016 and brought back to France by the Puy du Fou. Its attribution to Joan remains debated, although analysis of the object and its materials is consistent with a medieval origin.

Our Joan of Arc ring reproduction draws on both this surviving object and the historical descriptions of Joan's rings.

Two historical interpretations

We offer this ring in two versions, reflecting the distinction between the surviving ring traditionally attributed to Joan and the description preserved in the historical records.

1. Replica of the surviving ring – one cross and “M”

This version reproduces the appearance of the ring as it is known today, with a lateral cross and the letter M engraved on the sides of the upper section.

2. Historical reconstruction – three crosses

This version is based more closely on the descriptions preserved in the historical sources, with three engraved crosses positioned around the ring.

The distinction is intentional: the first version seeks fidelity to the surviving object, while the second seeks fidelity to the written historical record.

IHS and MAR inscriptions

The upper section of the ring bears the inscription IHS, a traditional Christogram referring to Jesus Christ, while the opposite side bears MAR, referring to Mary.

These religious inscriptions reflect the importance of the names of Jesus and Mary in the surviving sources concerning Joan of Arc. They appear not only in accounts of her rings but also in documents associated with her.

This religious symbolism also gives the ring the character of a medieval devotional ring, beyond its historical significance.

Handcrafted in precious metals

Each Joan of Arc replica ring is made in our jewelry workshop and finished individually.

The ring measures approximately 7 mm wide at the top and weighs approximately 6.5 grams in size 52, although its final weight varies according to ring size and precious metal.

It is available in:

  • 925 sterling silver, the closest material choice to the surviving ring and our most accessible version;
  • 14K yellow gold, the best option for an economical gold ring of Joan of Arc;
  • 18K yellow gold, for a warmer and more precious interpretation;
  • Platinum 950, for exceptional durability and weight.

The medieval ring attributed to Joan appears to have been made of silver with traces consistent with old gilding. Our versions are therefore not presented as reproductions of its original metal finish, but as different precious-metal interpretations of the historical design.

Who is this Joan of Arc ring for?

This Joan of Arc ring is designed for those drawn to Joan's history, faith and legacy.

It may appeal to a Christian looking for a meaningful devotional ring, a history enthusiast interested in medieval objects, or simply someone who admires Joan of Arc as a symbol of courage, conviction and perseverance.

Because its design is derived from an actual historical object and documentary sources rather than from a modern interpretation of Joan's image, it offers something different from conventional Joan of Arc jewelry: a direct connection with an object associated with her life.

For its wearer, the significance of the ring can therefore extend far beyond the intrinsic value of the precious metal from which it is made.
