This Joan of Arc necklace features Saint Joan of Arc in armor, surrounded by one of the most famous quotes attributed to her during her trial in 1431.
Handcrafted in our jewelry workshop, this medal brings together Christian faith, French history and courage in the face of adversity. Joan is portrayed in profile wearing armor, her gaze raised toward heaven, while her historic response concerning the grace of God appears in Latin around the medal.
The pendant can be ordered on its own or with an optional chain and is available in 22 mm and 25 mm diameters.
A Historical Quote from Joan of Arc's Trial
During her trial in Rouen in 1431, Joan of Arc was asked whether she believed herself to be in a state of God's grace. Her celebrated answer has been preserved in the historical record in Latin:
“Si ego non sum, Deus ponat me in illa; si vero sum, Deus me in ipsa perseveret.”
Traditionally translated as:
“If I am not, may God put me there; and if I am, may God keep me there.”
The response has become one of the best-known expressions associated with Joan of Arc. Faced with a difficult theological question from her judges, her answer expressed faith in God, humility and remarkable presence of mind.
This historical passage inspired the entire design of our St Joan of Arc medal.
A Portrait of Faith and Courage
Joan is represented wearing armor, her face turned upward toward heaven.
The composition deliberately brings together two aspects of her story. Her upward gaze evokes faith and trust in God, while her armor recalls the young woman who took an active part in a military campaign in support of Charles VII.
The contrast between faith and courage, devotion and action gives this medal its distinctive character.
Rather than creating a conventional religious portrait, we wanted the design of this Joan of Arc pendant to express both the saint and the historical figure.
Handcrafted in Sterling Silver
Each medal is designed and made in our jewelry workshop.
The portrait, armor and inscription are sculpted in relief to give depth to the design and preserve the legibility of the Latin quotation surrounding Joan.
The 925 sterling silver version receives a patinated finish that emphasizes the details of the portrait, armor and lettering while giving the medal a distinctive historical character.
As each piece is individually made and hand-finished, slight variations may occur from one medal to another.
Two Medal Sizes
The Joan of Arc medal is available in two diameters:
- 22 mm (0.87 in) – a discreet size designed for comfortable everyday wear.
- 25 mm (0.98 in) – a larger version giving greater presence to Joan's portrait and the surrounding inscription.
Measurements exclude the bail.
The final weight of each size will be specified after production of the first finished pieces.
